Objective To determine whether moderate to severe chronic periodontitis(CP) in Ningxia population was associated with polymorphisms in vitamin D receptor(VDR) gene(TaqⅠ),and to analyze if there were differences in the frequencies of VDR genotypes and alleles between Han nationality and Hui nationality. Methods Peripheral venous blood from participants was collected, including 90 CP patients and 95 healthy controls in Han nationality.88 CP patients and 92 healthy controls in Hui nationality were selected.Whether there were associations between VDR gene polymorphisms and CP by case-control methods was analyzed. Results There was statistically significant difference in the frequencies of VDR TaqⅠ genotypes and alleles between the CP of Hui nationality and healthy controls(P = 0.037 and P = 0.043,respectively),CP patients and healthy controls in Han nationality(P = 0.033 and P = 0.039,respectively).There was no statistically significant difference in the frequencies of VDR TaqⅠ genotypes and alleles between the CP in Han nationality and CP in Hui nationality(P = 0.785 and P = 0.788,respectively).Conclusions The TaqⅠ polymorphism of the VDR gene was associated with the moderate to severe CP in Hui and Han nationality.
