1SheetGen: A Rule-Based Generative Design Algorithm for Manufacturability-Focused Sheet Metal Parts Based on Domain-Specific Design Knowledge
Christoph Wittig Adão, Jiahang Li, Markus Döellken, Maxim Möllhoff, Xingang Li,Sven Matthiesen

Abstract Generative design can accelerate the early exploration of design solutions, yet generated designs frequently fail to meet the requirements for manufacturing. This shortcoming stems from a disconnect between the generation process of the solutions and the domain-specific design knowledge that experienced engineers apply to ensure manufacturability. To address this gap, this paper presents SheetGen, a rule-based generative design algorithm for sheet metal bending parts that systematically translates domain-specific design knowledge into algorithmic rules enforced directly during part generation rather than through post-hoc filtering. The algorithm operates on edge connections between planar surfaces and embeds manufacturing requirements at distinct stages of the generative design process, distinguishing between pre-processing, in-process, and post-processing integration points. Generated solutions are exported directly into a commercial CAD environment and validated through industrial manufacturing simulation. SheetGen is evaluated across three test cases. Compared to a baseline algorithm without rule implementation, it raises manufacturability from 40% to 64%. For an input where a generative approach from the literature produces no manufacturable parts, SheetGen achieves 86%. In a plausibility comparison with human designers who achieved 71% manufacturability, SheetGen reaches 96%. The results demonstrate that systematic knowledge integration can substantially improve the manufacturability of generatively designed sheet metal parts, and the identified strengths and limitations of the rule-based approach point toward hybrid strategies that combine rule-based reliability with AI-driven adaptability to further advance generative design for manufacturing.

2Development of a Culture-Based Support Method for Creativity in Distributed Product Development
Annika Bastian, Paula Cadavid Restrepo, Jakob Willerscheid,Albert Albers

Understanding the impact of cultural diversity on team creativity is essential as global business operations evolve. This research is motivated by the increasing number of distributed teams in product development and the need to increase their creative potential amidst cultural differences. Using the Design Research Methodology (DRM) to structure this research systematically, this contribution aims to explore cultural factors influencing creativity, define specific requirements for supporting creativity in multicultural environments, and develop a method for supporting creative problem-solving in these contexts. The resulting Cultural Synergy Spectrum Method addresses these aspects by integrating tools from methodologies like the Nominal Group Technique and De Bono's Six Thinking Hats. Initial validations of this method, through practical applications and expert feedback, highlight its strengths in fostering intercultural understanding and collaboration while identifying areas for improvement. These findings underline the importance of systematically addressing cultural factors to enhance the creativity of distributed product development teams. This contribution emphasizes the role of integrating cultural considerations into product development processes, adding to the field of intercultural team management and creative problem-solving in a global context.

3MON-329 Metastatic Thyroid Involvement in Her2-positive Breast Cancer Mimicking Primary Thyroid
Dina Saba, Lu Li, Svetlana Katsnelson, Joseph An Vu

Disclosure: D. Saba: None. L. Li: None. S. Katsnelson: None. J.A. Vu: None. A 51-year-old female with a history of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) -positive invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) was found to have a right lobe nodule and a left thyroid lobe mass with high uptake on positron emission tomography (PET) scan. While fine-needle biopsy of the left thyroid lobe mass was inconclusive, biopsy of a right lobe nodule was suspicious for breast cancer. Both lesions resolved following systemic HER2-targeted chemotherapy, indicating metastatic breast cancer in the thyroid gland. This case highlights the diagnostic challenge of distinguishing primary thyroid malignancy from metastatic disease and the efficacy of HER2-targeted therapies in treating breast cancer metastases to the thyroid gland. 4More Than Wishful Thinking: Successful Implementation of the 3 Wishes Project (3WP) in Los Angeles Safety Net Hospitals (Snhs)
    K. Bijawat, C. J. Marentes Ruiz,D. Tarn,N. Wenger,A. Walling, R. Gadgil, N. Kamangar, E. Beers, H. Cassano, N. Aceves, D. W. Chang, B. Mittman,

Rationale: The 3 Wishes Project (3WP) is a low-cost palliative-care initiative in which healthcare workers implement small but meaningful wishes for patients and their families to improve the quality of the end-of-life experience. It has been shown to be a transferrable, affordable, and sustainable program in several academic centers, but has never been implemented in safety-net hospitals (SNHs). SNHs provide largely uncompensated healthcare to low-income and uninsured patients, and unfortunately, are often unable to implement novel palliative care interventions. We hypothesized that the 3WP can be successfully implemented in the intensive care units (ICUs) of SNHs when guided by stakeholder engagement. Methods: A stepped-wedge study design, where implementation was staggered by 2 months, was used to implement the 3WP in 3 Los Angeles SNHs. Prior to implementation, stakeholders from each SNH were engaged in individual semi-structured interviews or focus groups to elicit feedback regarding the 3WP implementation strategy. Informational brochures for families and instructional badge buddies for nurses were created and personalized for each SNH. Per stakeholder suggestions, items that met the cultural and spiritual needs of the SNH's majority Catholic patient population (rosaries, flameless prayer candles, crosses) were purchased for each SNH's 3WP inventory. Depending on stakeholder preference, 2 to 8 training sessions were conducted at each SNH to familiarize nurses with the 3WP goals as well as the logistics of eliciting, fulfilling, and documenting wishes. We show results from the initial 7-month period. Results: Across 3 SNHs, 111 ICU nurses, 3 ICU physicians, 1 Social Worker, 10 Palliative Care Team Members, 2 Spiritual Care Team Members, and 12 3WP Team members implemented a total of 314 wishes for 117 patients (60% of eligible patients). Deceased patients who had 3WP as part of their end-of-life care averaged 62.2 years old, were 61% male, 63% LatinX, and 43% Spanish-speaking only. Categories of wishes included keepsakes (50%, e.g. fingerprints, locks of hair), rituals and spiritual support (19%, e.g. rosaries/crosses), and items to humanize the environment (15%, e.g. decorating hospital room, non-hospital blankets). The direct cost of 3WP averaged $18.79 (range: $0 to $95) per patient. Conclusions: The 3WP is an inexpensive patient and family-centered approach to end-of-life care that can be successfully implemented in culturally diverse SNHs when guided by a methodical implementation strategy. ICU nurses were responsible for the elicitation and implementation of nearly all wishes and are strong champions for this intervention.

5Association Between SARS-CoV-2 Infection and Adverse Perinatal Outcomes in a Large Health Maintenance Organization.
    Darios Getahun,Morgan R. Peltier,Lawrence D. Lurvey,Jiaxiao M. Shi,David Braun,David A. Sacks,Anthony E. Burgos,Alex Fong,Neha Trivedi,Lyn Yasumura,Kristi Reynolds,Marielle Nguyen,

Objective This study aimed to examine whether severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection during pregnancy is associated with increased odds of perinatal complications and viral transmission to the infant. Study Design A retrospective cohort study of women who delivered at Kaiser Permanente Southern California hospitals (April 6, 2020–February 28, 2021) was performed using data extracted from electronic health records (EHRs). During this time polymerize chain reaction (PCR)-based tests for SARS-CoV-2 was universally offered to all pregnant women at labor and delivery admission, as well as earlier in the pregnancy, if they were displaying symptoms consistent with SARS-CoV-2 infection or a possible exposure to the virus. Adjusted odds ratio (aOR) was used to estimate the strength of associations between positive test results and adverse perinatal outcomes. Results Of 35,123 women with a singleton pregnancy, 2,203 (6%) tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection with 596 (27%) testing positive during the first or second trimester and 1,607 (73%) during the third trimester. Women testing positive were younger than those who tested negative (29.7 [5.4] vs. 31.1 [5.3] years; mean [standard deviation (SD)]; p < .001). The SARS-CoV-2 infection tended to increase the odds of an abnormal fetal heart rate pattern (aOR: 1.10; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.00, 1.21; p = 0.058), spontaneous preterm birth (aOR: 1.28; 95% CI: 1.03, 1.58; p = 0.024), congenital anomalies (aOR: 1.69; 95% CI: 1.15, 2.50; p = 0.008), and maternal intensive care unit admission at delivery (aOR: 7.44; 95% CI: 4.06, 13.62; p < 0.001) but not preeclampsia/eclampsia (aOR: 1.14; 95% CI: 0.98, 1.33; p = 0.080). Eighteen (0.8%) neonates of mothers who tested positive also had a positive SARS-CoV-2 test after 24 hours of birth, but all were asymptomatic during the neonatal period. Conclusion These findings suggest that prenatal SARS-CoV-2 infection increases the odds of some adverse perinatal outcomes. The likelihood of vertical transmission from the mother to the fetus was low (0.3%), suggesting that pregnancy complications resulting from SARS-CoV-2 infection pose more risk to the baby than transplacental viral transmission.
