Guangxi Medical University (simplified Chinese: 广西医科大学; traditional Chinese: 廣西醫科大學; pinyin: Guǎngxī Yīkē Dàxué) is located in Nanning, Guangxi, China and is one of the oldest higher education medical institutions in China. In 2010, the university was voted one of the top 20 universities in China for medicine study. Clinical medicine field by the university is categorized as world's top 1%, according to Thomson Reuters Web of Science Essential Science Indicators.
Osteoporosis, a prevalent skeletal condition defined by diminished bone density and disrupted microarchitecture, dramatically elevates fracture risk. Its pathophysiology is now understood to extend beyond classic remodeling imbalances to include a pivotal shift in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell (BMSC) differentiation, where adipogenesis is favored over osteogenesis—a key feature of aging and estrogen deficiency. The emerging "gut-bone axis" suggests that microbiota-derived metabolites can systemically influence skeletal homeostasis, presenting new therapeutic possibilities. This research uncovers the direct osteoanabolic and anti-adipogenic properties of Reuterin (3-hydroxypropionaldehyde, Reut), a principal antimicrobial metabolite from Lactobacillus reuteri. In vitro, Reut (5–20 μM) showed excellent cytocompatibility, dose-dependently boosting osteogenic differentiation (increased ALP activity and mineralization) while effectively suppressing adipogenic differentiation (decreased lipid accumulation) in BMSCs. Mechanistically, Reut specifically activated the canonical BMP-Smad pathway, demonstrated by the rapid phosphorylation and nuclear translocation of Smad1/5/9 and the upregulated expression of its direct targets (ID1, ID2). This activation was crucial, as the BMP receptor inhibitor LDN-193189 completely negated Reut's effects. In an ovariectomized (OVX) rat model, systemic Reut administration (10 mg/kg, every other day for 8 weeks) not only mitigated trabecular bone loss and enhanced biomechanical properties but also markedly reversed the OVX-induced expansion of marrow adipose tissue (MAT). Remarkably, the bone-preserving efficacy of Reut was statistically equivalent to that of teriparatide (TPTD), a clinically approved anabolic agent, while both treatments similarly and significantly countered the pathological marrow adiposity. These results establish Reut as a novel, gut microbiome-derived therapeutic metabolite that rectifies the fundamental lineage imbalance in osteoporosis by directly engaging the BMP-Smad pathway, offering a distinct postbiotic strategy for anabolic bone therapy.
Nurses play a crucial role as caregivers for cancer patients and providing spiritual care has become an integral part of their responsibilities. However, cancer patients’ spiritual needs are often overlooked in clinical practice. This study aimed to develop and validate a spiritual care e-book for women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. We developed a spiritual care e-book, Healing Light, for women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy and used the Fuzzy Delphi method for content validation. Two experts in clinical, two experts in nursing, one expert in education, and three experts in the spiritual care field participated in the study and evaluated the consensus of the e-book content using a standard questionnaire. The obtained data was analyzed using Microsoft Excel, including calculations of averages and formula-based computations. Healing Light comprises six sections, each covering specific topics on spiritual theory, practice, and reflection. The content validation showed that the spiritual care e-book has gained expert consensus with all items meeting the threshold values (d) ≤ 0.2, experts’ agreement rate above 75
Neuropathic pain (NP) is a type of pain resulting from damage or dysfunction of the somatosensory system. Emerging evidence suggests that lipid-lowering drugs may influence the development or progression of NP. This study’s objectives are to examine the association between statin use and diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) using NHANES cross-sectional data, and to evaluate whether genetically proxied inhibition of HMGCR, PCSK9, and NPC1L1 is associated with DPN, trigeminal neuralgia (TN), and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). In the NHANES component, we conducted a cross-sectional analysis of adults with diabetes and dyslipidemia from NHANES 1999–2004 to examine the association between statin use and DPN. In the primary analysis, dyslipidemia was defined using nonfasting/full-sample indicators, and an additional fasting-weight sensitivity analysis was performed using a broader fasting lipid definition. MR analyses were then performed to evaluate the associations of genetically proxied HMGCR, PCSK9, and NPC1L1 inhibition with DPN, TN, and PHN. In NHANES, statin use was not significantly associated with DPN in the primary analysis across progressively adjusted models, and the fasting-weight sensitivity analysis showed directionally similar but still non-significant results. By contrast, MR analyses suggested that genetically proxied HMGCR inhibition was associated with increased odds of DPN (OR = 4.20, 95
The aim of this study was to summarize the current research status and application of exosomes in the treatment of myocardial infarction (MI) through bibliometric analysis and to provide insights and suggestions for future research. We searched the Web of Science Core Collection database for publications on exosome-based treatments for MI from 2000 to 2023. Bibliometric and visualization analyses were conducted using VOSviewer and CiteSpace. A total of 6138 authors from 96 institutions in 65 countries and regions published 1062 articles in 358 academic journals. The majority of publications were from China and the United States. Nanjing Medical University and Soochow University are the most active institutions. Cheng was the author with the highest number of publications, while Barile was the most co-cited. The International Journal of Molecular Sciences had the highest publication output while Circulation Research was the most cited journal. Current research focuses on areas likely to be future hot topics, such as “repair,” “mesenchymal stem cells,” “progenitor cells,” “endothelial cells,” “expression,” “bone marrow,” “apoptosis,” “drug delivery,” “inflammation,” and “cells.” Future research directions include exploring the mechanisms of exosomes from various cellular sources for MI treatment, investigating different drug delivery modes, developing post-MI therapeutic strategies, regulating apoptotic protein expression, and emphasizing the roles of different stem cells and molecules in exosome studies for MI treatment. In the field of MI, exosomes represent an excellent drug delivery system. This analysis offers valuable insights into research hotspots and cutting-edge directions for scholars in related fields.
The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in complex networks of brain functions associated with LEV treatment and the neural mechanisms underlying the effects on executive functions. Patients with TLE, including both users and nonusers of LEV, were included in this study along with healthy controls. Rs-fMRI and an attentional network test (ANT) were performed, and 9 of the 23 patients not taking LEV were selected for LEV intervention and followed up for 18 months. Rs-fMRI and ANT were reviewed, and graph theoretic analyses were applied to investigate the changes in their topological properties. Both the LEV and HC groups showed improvements in executive function compared with the non-LEV group. At the global level, significant group differences in global efficiency and characteristic path length were observed among the three groups. At the nodal level, compared with the HC and non-LEV groups, the LEV group presented multiple differential nodes with different topological properties in the parieto-occipital lobe and frontal lobe. The TLE-LEV group had multiple differential nodes in the parieto-occipital lobe and frontal–temporal lobe compared with the TLE-N group. Notably, the LEV group's betweenness centrality of the superior frontal gyrus and dorsolateral and executive functions was significantly positively correlated with the correlation analyses. Changes in the topological properties are a key effect of LEV administration. This finding improves our understanding of the neural mechanisms by which LEV improves cognitive functioning.
