Eleven compounds (1–11), comprising two previously undescribed tetrahydrofuran derivatives (1–2) alongside nine recognized metabolites (3–11), were separated and purified from the EtOAc extract derived from the endophytic strain Aspergillus costaricensis. The structural determination of the compounds was achieved unambiguously through NMR spectroscopy, HRESIMS, and ECD analysis. Subsequent biological evaluation assessed the cytotoxic, antimicrobial, and α-glucosidase inhibitory properties of all isolates. Compound 10 exhibited moderate potency against the cancer cell lines MCF-7 and A549, with respective IC50 values of 22.0 ± 1.2 μM and 15.5 ± 1.1 μM. Overall, this investigation expands the chemical diversity of the genus Aspergillus and highlights compound 10 as a promising structural scaffold for further anticancer drug development.
Cu matrix composites are widely used in advanced tribological components, but achieving mechanical compatibility between the soft matrix and hard reinforcements to mitigate adhesive wear remains challenging. In this work, Fe-based metallic glass-reinforced Cu matrix composite coatings (0–35 wt%) were fabricated on Al-alloy substrates via cold spraying. The impact of hard metallic glass particles induced a pronounced tamping effect, thereby reducing the coating porosity from 0.47% to 0.12%. Simultaneously, the synergistic effects of dispersion strengthening and work hardening increased the microhardness from 149.23 HV to 171.64 HV. The coating–substrate interfacial shear strength increased from 44.93 MPa for the pure Cu coating to 100.43 MPa for the 35 wt% MG composite coating, demonstrating a significant enhancement in interfacial bonding reliability. Reciprocating dry sliding tests revealed that the 35 wt% metallic glass composite coating achieved superior wear performance, with the coefficient of friction decreasing from 0.78 to 0.65 and the specific wear rate dropping by nearly 50% to 2.34 × 10−5 mm3/N·m. Subsurface and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses confirmed a transition in the wear mechanism from severe adhesive wear to mild oxidative self-lubricating wear. The embedded metallic glass particles functioned as a load-bearing framework, effectively inhibiting substantial plastic deformation of the Cu matrix. Under the combined influence of frictional heating and contact stress, a mechanically mixed layer approximately 4 μm thick developed. Moreover, Mo species from the metallic glass fragments underwent in-situ oxidation, forming a lubricious glaze layer composed of MoO3 and CuO atop the Cu2O/SiO2-rich mechanically mixed layer. This structural synergy provides both rigid mechanical support and intrinsic lubricity, effectively stabilizing the sliding interface. This work elucidates the tribochemical evolution of metallic glass-reinforced composites and provides a feasible strategy for developing durable self-lubricating coatings for extreme service conditions.
Enterovirus 71 (EV71), a member of the family Picornaviridae, genus Enterovirus, is an agent of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) and remains a persistent global health concern, particularly among children under five years of age. Although most infections are self-limiting, a significant proportion can progress to severe neurological manifestations such as aseptic meningitis, encephalitis, and fatal pulmonary oedema. Despite substantial advances in research, no universally effective antiviral therapy or broadly protective vaccine has yet been developed. Drawing upon both foundational and recent studies, we evaluate the strength of existing evidence and delineate how these viral proteins cooperatively regulate viral entry, genome replication, immune evasion, autophagy, and host cell death. Special emphasis is placed on virus-host protein interactions, post-translational modifications, and the signaling pathways targeted by EV71 to subvert innate immune responses protein-protein interactions with host factors, post-translational modifications, and the molecular mechanisms by which EV71 subverts innate immune signaling pathways. By integrating structural, biochemical, and systems-level insights, this review pro-poses a unifying conceptual model of EV71 protein function, highlighting key molecular interfaces that underline viral replication and pathogenesis. The analysis also identifies critical knowledge gaps and emerging therapeutic targets, providing a forward-looking perspective on strategies for antiviral drug discovery, vaccine design, and host-directed interventions aimed at durable control of EV71 infection. This review was designed to critically synthesize current structural, molecular, and systems-level evidence to elucidate how EV71 structural and nonstructural proteins coordinate viral replication, immune evasion, and pathogenesis, and to identify priority targets for antiviral and vaccine development.
All-solid-state lithium-sulfur batteries (ASSLSBs) with polymer electrolytes have high theoretical energy density and improved safety, providing appealing potential for next-generation energy storage. However, limiting the dissolution of long-chain polysulfides (LiPSs) in polymer electrolyte and achieving high S loading in cathodes remains a challenge. To tackle this issue, we demonstrate a 3D electrode composed of a mixture of styrene butadiene rubber and lithium carboxyl methyl cellulose as the binder, equipped with a high concentration of all-solid-state polyethylene oxide (PEO) -based electrolyte filled with LLZTO (Li6.5La3Zr1.5Ta0.5O12) and LiPSs (named LiPS/LLZTO-CL/S). The synergistic design exhibits outstanding structural stability, preventing the dissolution of long-chain LiPSs, enhancing the kinetics of short-chain LiPSs, alleviating volume expansion, and offering pathways for ion/electron transport. The battery possesses attractive cycling stability and can maintain high capacity retention (1106 mAh g-1 even after 500 cycles) at 0.2 C. Its structural and electrochemical advantages enable stable cycling at a high sulfur loading of 7.0 mg cm-2 and 0.5 C without electrolyte in the cathode. This work proposes a novel strategy for the structural design of high-loading polymer ASSLSBs.
Biomass materials, owing to their abundant availability and environmental friendliness, have been widely applied in interfacial water evaporation. However, biomass materials often suffer from poor solution processability and low solar-thermal conversion efficiency. Herein, we propose a novel strategy for constructing highly efficient solar-thermal evaporators: 1) The amphiphilicity of PEO-PPO-PEO tri-block copolymer (F127) in aqueous solution was utilized to enhance the solution processability of the biomass based solar-thermal material. 2) Ledum palustre L. powder (LPL) contains bio-pigments such as quercetin, which gives it potential as a photothermal material. At the same time, its antibacterial components, including ursolic acid, allow it to be used to build an antibacterial solar-thermal evaporator. The evaporator formed by integrating LPL and amphiphilic F127 achieved an evaporation rate of 1.66 kg m(-2) h(-1) and a water evaporation efficiency of 91.5% under 1.0 kW m(-2) illumination. After 14 days of continuous outdoor operation, no bacterial colonization was observed on the evaporator surface or in the surrounding water. When exposed to stronger illumination, the device generated an output voltage of 158.09 mV in a custom-built thermoelectric setup. The results demonstrate that the camphor biomass solar evaporator constructed with surfactant assistance represents a low-energy, high-efficiency water purification strategy.
