The aim of the study is to determine the effectiveness of using personalized digital ecosystems to develop research autonomy of Doctors of Philosophy (PhD) students. The study employed the following methods: longitudinal observations, calculation of indices of reflective activity and coefficients of strategic flexibility, and convergent parallel design. The study found that the development of students’ autonomy is possible due to the transition from structured to configured digital environments. Personalized digital tools (Zotero, Obsidian, ATLAS.ti, Voyant Tools, NVivo, Overleaf, Open Science Framework, etc.) were used to train three independent cohorts (2021–2025). The proposed digital ecosystems statistically significantly contributed to the development of key components of autonomy: the level of cognitive independence increased from 2.8 to 4.1 points (d=1.61), and the strategic flexibility indicator from 1.5 to 3.7 (d=3.22). Analysis of behavioural logs confirmed the formation of individual work processes, where the experimentation coefficient reached 0.8 in an open environment. Systematicians (31 people) demonstrated a stable growth of autonomy to 4.0 points, and Adaptive Researcher (13 people) reached a maximum index of 4.6, which indicates the effectiveness of free choice of tools. The final comparison of the 2021–2023 cohorts did not reveal statistical differences (F(2,65)=0.45, p=0.64), which confirms the stability of autonomy development at the level of 4.0±0.8 points regardless of the year of the start of the study. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the empirical comparison of open configurable versus structured digital environments using objective behavioural log-data, the identification of three distinct developmental trajectories, and the confirmation of effect stability across three independent cohorts. The practical significance of the research is identifying effective digital architectures that contribute to the professional development of the researchers at the third level of higher education.
In modern research practice, AI chatbots are gaining recognition as effective digital assistants that facilitate the search and analysis of scientific literature. In this context, the article presents a comprehensive analysis of the features of using AI chatbots in research practice, particularly for searching and analysing scientific sources. The research methodology is based on a mixed approach that combines a desk review of scientific sources with a comparative assessment of results from 5 AI chatbots (ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity AI) across 8 criteria. The analysis used quantitative and qualitative metrics to assess AI chatbot responses to the same set of research queries by experts from four fields of knowledge (Engineering, Natural Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences). A comparative analysis of AI chatbots showed their different capabilities and limitations in working with scientific sources. ChatGPT is the most balanced tool, with high accuracy and objective responses, but it does not cover many sources and is prone to interpretation. MS Copilot is distinguished by the speed of response generation and the sufficient relevance of its sources but is inferior in the objectivity of its analysis. Gemini provides sufficient correspondence with the topic and objectivity in response, but the responses are often excessively long and less accurate in analysis. Claude demonstrates the highest indicators of relevance and objectivity by working with a small number of sources, yet makes almost no generalisations. Perplexity AI is the leader in terms of the volume and quality of the source base, forms generalisations well, but is characterised by the lowest relevance of sources and objectivity of response. The results showed that all the studied AI chatbots demonstrate a high level of formal reliability of sources, but differ significantly in the relevance of sources, analytical depth, and the ability to interpret the scientific content of articles adequately. AI chatbots are effective tools for initial understanding of a research topic, rapid collection of sources for analysis and preliminary structuring of the material. However, they cannot fully carry out a deep and critical analysis of scientific sources on a specific research question.
This study examines factors associated with information and communication technology (ICT) acceptance and intention to use in teaching among non‑university teachers in the Autonomous Community of La Rioja, Spain. Drawing on an extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), a validated questionnaire was administered to 1,259 teachers from public and private‑subsidized schools. Central motivational constructs (perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, digital self‑efficacy, and attitude toward ICT), contextual factors (institutional support, availability of resources, and subjective norm), and the outcome variable (intention to use ICT in teaching) were analysed using structural equation modelling and multigroup analysis. The results indicate that attitude toward ICT is the strongest predictor of intention to use, with perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and digital self‑efficacy acting as key mediators. Digital self‑efficacy shows a strong association with both perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. Statistically significant differences emerged by age, qualification, teaching experience, and school characteristics: younger teachers and those with higher qualifications or less experience reported higher intention to use ICT, whereas more experienced teachers reported greater reliance on institutional and family support, and more favourable perceptions were observed in private‑subsidized and urban schools. A complementary qualitative analysis reveals ambivalent perceptions of ICT in teaching: teachers recognize its pedagogical potential but also express concerns about student distraction, digital divides, screen overexposure, and insufficient training and resources. Overall, the findings highlight the need for comprehensive strategies that address individual factors, school‑level conditions, and targeted professional development in order to support sustainable digital transformation in educational settings.
