Leucoagaricus lilaceus is a neotropical species originally described from the Argentinean Yungas. Based on morphoanatomical and phylogenetic analyses, it has been determined that this species currently belongs to the genus Chlorophyllum. The new combination Chlorophyllum lilaceum is proposed and is related to C. squamulosum within the Rhacodium section.
We describe and illustrate Macrolobium patentibracteum (Detarioideae: Fabaceae), a new species from the Chocó department in the Pacific biogeographical region of Colombia. We also provide notes on geographic range, IUCN threat status, phenology, etymology and taxonomic affinities of the new species. Macrolobium patentibracteum differs from all its congeners by the morphological combination of large and persistent stipules, large leaflets, persistent and patent bracts and basally connate stamen filaments. Additionally, we discuss two novel morphological characteristics for M. sect. Stenosolen found in M. patentibracteum: the basally connate stamen filaments and the pinnate leaves with large leaflets.
Based on extensive fieldwork associated with the examination of specimens deposited in over 80 herbaria in Brazil and elsewhere, this revision is the result of over 50 years’ study by the senior author of Neotropical Lamiaceae. Following an introduction, giving a historical account of the development of Hyptidinae classification, there is a description of the genus Hyptis, a conspectus of infrageneric categories, with keys to sections, individual subsections and species. There are full descriptions of all species of Hyptis recorded from Brazil, and also included are details of species distributions by state, indicating endemics, and listing countries outside Brazil, where these occur. Line drawings illustrating species for each infrageneric taxon and photo plates are included. There are additional notes, where further discussion is considered necessary, and commentary on geographical distribution of taxa. An index of taxa is provided, and an extensive list of exsiccatae.
Homalomena hainanensis H.Li and Schismatoglottis hainanensis H.Li, two historically enigmatic aroid names published from Hainan Island, have long presented taxonomic ambiguity due to unclear protologues and poorly preserved type materials. Through careful examinations of the types and new materials from recent fieldwork, the identities of both names are clarified with new interpretations. Homalomena hainanensis is epitypified here, with the recently published H. perplexa K.Z.Hein, Vuang, Bao V.S.Dang placed in synonymy, and Schismatoglottis hainanensis is shown to be conspecific with the Central Vietnamese S. cadierei Buchet Gagnep. ex S.Y.Wong P.C.Boyce. We also confirm the occurrence of Anadendrum chlorospathum V.D.Nguyen, Đinh P.C.Boyce in Hainan for the first time, resolving a long history of misidentification. These taxonomic clarifications, together with literature and herbarium records, reveal an Indochina–Hainan disjunct distribution for these three species and highlight the tropical, low-endemism aroid flora of Hainan, whose close affinity with that of Vietnam supports a continental origin and suggests geologically recent eustatic floristic exchanges.
Based on morphological studies carried out between 2018 and 2024, Hieronymiella jaumebastidae Huaylla is described as a new species from Cerro Obispo in the Cordillera de Los Frailes in southern Bolivia. Information about its habitat, photos of living plants, a table comparing distinguishing morphological features and a conservation assessment are all provided together with an identification key for Hieronymiella in Bolivia.
