The superior inherent properties like low density, lower consumption of energy and low cost, when compared with synthetic fibers, some of the widely used natural fibers utilized for manufacturing composites include banana, hemp, jute, sisal, coir
The current study performs static and free vibration analysis of a functionally graded (FG) plate made of Aluminium-Silicon Carbide (Al SiC) with an edge crack. A material gradation based on a linear power-law is considered along the plate thickness. The effects of changing the percentage of SiC gradation and varying crack angles on deformation, stress intensity factor ( K ), and natural frequencies are investigated. It is observed that with increase in percentage gradation of SiC in FG plate, the values of K and natural frequency increase but the deformation decreases. The results of the FG plate are validated using analytical and experimental results from the literature and compared to those of an isotropic Aluminum alloy Al 2014-T6 plate. It is also observed that FG plates have lower deformation and K values than Aluminum alloy Al 2014-T6 plates, making them suitable for a wide range of applications
Coal-fired thermal power plants are the prime source of electricity worldwide. The higher operating temperature and pressure of these power plants cause high-temperature oxidation and corrosion of the boiler materials used in these power plants.Various advanced materials have been developed to resist these degradations, but individual advanced materials were found insufficient to resist such degradations for longer. It is accomplished by providing an additional protective coating of the oxidation-resistant material over the surface of the metallic component having desired mechanical properties.Researchers have investigated the high-temperature performances of various base materials and coatings combinations.Different coating techniques have been used to deposit the coatings, including electroplating, thermal spray coating, physical vapor deposition, chemical vapor deposition, etc.Among all these methods, the thermal spray technique is reported to be a cost-effective method to deposit coatings with good mechanical and microstructural properties. In this paper, a brief review of the literature on the high-temperature oxidation performance of thermally sprayed boiler tube materials has been presented and discussed.
This review paper is written to summarize the scientific efforts made to enhance hybrid manufacturing (HM) technology. The HM technology has gained significant attention both in industry and academia.Additive manufacturing (AM) technology has played a decisive role in this scenario that provides numerous advantages over conventional methods of manufacturing. In general, with the advent of new technologies in the system of manufacturing, there has been an increase in the demand of customers and markets as competition has increased. The paper starts with the advantages and disadvantages of HM and AM, with a focus on the metal additive manufacturing (MAM) and wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) systems and their work. From onwards, scientific and engineering efforts to evaluate the surface quality of the part and the heat affected zone effect on the microstructure and mechanical properties during the WAAM process have been discussed. How this technology has evolved over time has been described comprehensively.
Solar thermal technology applied to utilize the thermal energy coming from the sun in various applications with the help of solar thermal collectors.Different types of solar collectors such as flat plate, evacuated tube, concentrating collectors, and pitched roof solar collectors are available in practice.Among them, evacuated tube solar collectors are widely used due to their lower convective losses and higher efficiencies.Researchers put great effort to enhance the efficiency of ETSCs by applying various enhancement techniques like integration of fins and reflectors; incorporation of different thermal energy storage materials, nanofluids, PCMs, etc.The purpose of this article is to summarize the effect of nanofluids (ZnO, CuO, Al 2 O 3 , and CNTs) and different PCMs (Tritriacontane Paraffin and Erythritol) as energy storage options in practice on the efficiencies of evacuated tube collectors.PCMs with melting temperature (90 -180 °C) have been successfully practiced in ETSCs.
