This article considers the philosophical underpinnings of prudence and the role of prudence in nursing practice. This exploration will also center on living true presence with an end-of-life decision-making example that demonstrates the value humanbecoming paradigm provides in guiding nurses.
This study explores the relationships between nursing burnout, work engagement, and authentic leadership in Italy. It was a cross-sectional study in which the participants completed an online survey comprising three instruments. We found a significant and negative correlation between Personal Accomplishment (PA) and the Internalized Moral Perspective ( r = −.108, p = .022) and Vigor ( r = −.095, p = .043). Significant differences were assessed in PA levels according to the Internalized Moral Perspective ( F = 5.261, p = .022), and lower PA levels also had lower mean scores in Internalized Moral Perspective compared with those reporting moderate or higher PA. The same trend was registered in the Vigor dimension, since lower PA levels reported lower Vigor scores ( F = 4.112, p = .043). The findings indicated that reduced feelings of PA could be associated with reduced moral internalization in leadership and lower investment in work engagement
Aspiration pneumonia and dysphagia remain significant health problems after intubation. This study reports on an evaluation of using the Gugging Swallowing Screen for early detection of aspiration pneumonia and dysphagia after extubation. A quasi-experimental design study was used involving 128 participants randomly assigned to two groups: an intervention group and a control group. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test and analysis of covariance. After the nutritional intervention according to the Gugging Swallowing Scale, the results showed a reduction in the total score for aspiration pneumonia in the global assessment of swallowing function. The mean score in the intervention group was 4.31 ± 1.029, which was higher than that in the control group (3.12 ± 1.467), reflecting the positive results of the intervention. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of the intervention in reducing aspiration pneumonia and improving swallowing function after the intervention period.
This article, through the use of storytelling and poetry, describes the calm-turbulence of humanuniverse in living quality.
This study investigated the effect of visual self-evaluation and faculty feedback on students' clinical skills acquisition. It was a quasi-experimental design involving a pre-test and post-test for a single group. The participants were 32 Iranian nursing students. The skills evaluated were intravenous (IV) and intramuscular (IM) injection, nasogastric tube insertion, and dressing change. The evaluation was by faculty and other students. The post-test data was analyzed using SPSS26. The mean scores of intramuscular injections, intravenous insertion, gastric sounding, and dressing change stations before the intervention were 14.72 ± 1.75, 10.72 ± 2.75, 14.89 ± 1.89, 8.35 ± 2.00 respectively. The mean scores after intervention were 19.63 ± 0.57, 10.95 ± 3.04, 19.52 ± 0.68, and 18.5 ± 0.98, respectively. After the intervention there was a statistically significant difference for each skill evaluated. The conclusion of the study is that the visual self-evaluation and faculty feedback of the intervention was associated with a significant increase in skills acquisition.
