The article presents a comprehensive linguopragmatic analysis of the peculiarities of verbalizing war experience within the contemporary linguistic space of Kyiv during the 2023-2026 period. The relevance of the study is driven by the need for scholarly recording of linguistic transformations in real-time to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms behind national resilience formation. The methodological framework of the research comprises descriptive, contextual, and psycholinguistic analysis methods, which allowed for a systemic study of a dataset containing over 300 messages extracted from official (Kyiv City State Administration, UKR INFORM) and informal (“Real Kyiv”, “Kyiv Without Censorship”) Telegram channels. In the course of the study, the following results were obtained: a clear linguopragmatic dichotomy was identified between institutional discourse, oriented toward memorialization and maintaining social order, and the informal segment, which serves as a platform for collective psychological stabilization and therapeutic reflection. The research characterizes the semantic transformations of everyday lexis and the emergence of innovative 2026 nominations related to mobilization processes (“busification”), the technological evolution of threats, and geopolitical irony (“Donnieland”). Special attention is paid to the conceptualization of “red lines” as a key existential marker of resistance in the speech of Kyiv residents. The conclusions of the work confirm that the capital’s linguistic space is a dynamic system where language performs not only a nominative but also a therapeutic function, transforming traumatic experience into a structured narrative of collective resilience. It is proven that the rationalization of threats through quantitative indicators and the ironic reflection of the international context are leading strategies for psychological defense. The prospects for further research are seen in studying the transformations of Kyiv’s urbanonymicon and the gender specifics of war discourse in social networks.
The article substantiates the significance of cinematography for teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language. The feasibility of using authentic video materials for effective foreign language teaching is argued. It is emphasised that they create the effect of virtual immersion of students in the language environment, give a vivid idea of the history and culture of Ukraine, and contribute to the assimilation of sociocultural information. At the same time, it is an effective tool for teaching various types of speech activities: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The article contains a new term, film didactics, and provides its definition. It emphasises that the use of various materials and tasks based on video technologies improves students’ language competence and speech skills, strengthens their motivation, develops independence and activity, and stimulates them to study new material. The criteria for selecting film material are described, taking into account the need to consider the level of language proficiency of students, their preferences and motivations, such as interest, practicality and communicativeness. A list of authentic Ukrainian video materials has been compiled to use in teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language at levels B1-C1. The author’s video course “Ukraine: History and Modernity” is presented. The principle of working with video materials is described. Three stages of work with audiovisual media are highlighted: pre-viewing (elimination of anticipated linguistic and cognitive barriers, introduction to the topic, prediction of the plot content), viewing (checking understanding of the material) and post-viewing (development of oral speech and reflection skills). The important role of the pre-viewing stage, a kind of educational foundation, is emphasised, since it determines the effectiveness of the student’s understanding of the general content. The article also offers a set of tasks aimed at teaching foreign students Ukrainian sociocultural vocabulary, based on a short journalistic video «Trembita» and the feature-length animated film “The Dragon Spell” («Mykyta Kozhumyaka»).
This article is devoted to a comprehensive study of the methods used to translate phraseological units in I. S. Nechui-Levytskyi’s novella «The Kaidash Family» into Persian («خانواده کایداش» «Xānevāde-ye Kāydāš»). The methods of rendering Ukrainian phraseology in Kateryna Krykoniuk’s translation have been identified and systematized. The study employs a descriptive method to analyze the functions and characteristics of phraseological units; a continuous-sampling method, which enabled the creation of a corpus of 63 units; and a contextual-interpretative method to justify translation decisions based on the literary context. The research results showed that non-phraseological methods (64 %) prevail over phraseological ones (30 %) in the translation. Calquing (25 %) was identified as the dominant technique, as it preserves the unique image of the Ukrainian phraseme. Other active methods include descriptive translation (17 %), the use of relative equivalents (16 %) and lexical translation (13 %). The share of full equivalents is only 5 %, reflecting significant national and cultural differences between Ukrainian and Persian. The conclusions emphasize that the adequacy of the translation of phraseological units depends on preserving their semantic and stylistic content within the context. It was found that overuse of calquing sometimes leads to undesirable literalism (6 %), distorting the semantics of the original image. The prospects for further research lie in the continued study of the reproduction of the Ukrainian cultural code within the Persian linguistic environment, with the potential to use these results in teaching translation theory and practice, Persian lexicology and stylistics, as well as in refining methods for rendering non-equivalent phraseology in literary texts.
The article analyzes linguistic means of intensification in Ancient Greek magical texts. The study’s material is the corpus Papyri Graecae Magicae. The relevance of the study is caused by the insufficient attention paid to a systematic linguistic description of these texts, which are traditionally examined within religious or cultural studies. The aim is to identify and classify intensifying devices that ensure the maximum perlocutionary effect of magical utterances. The methodological framework is based on a comprehensive approach that combines linguistic analysis with speech act theory and the anthropological interpretation of ritual discourse. Intensification is viewed as a means of strengthening the illocutionary force of an utterance.. The analysis is conducted at formal, semantic, and pragmatic levels, taking into account the performative nature of the magical text. It has been established that intensification in magical texts is complex in nature and realized through heterogeneous means. At the formal level, repetition (lexical, syntactic, and morphemic) predominates, performing functions of rhythmization, insistence, and reinforcement of the speech act. An important role is played by voces magicae–acoustically marked “magical words” that enhance the suggestive and sacral character of the text. At the semantic level, intensification is achieved through the accumulation of divine names and epithets, the use of superlatives, and strategies of identification of the speaker with the deity. The pragmatic level is represented by imperative constructions and prefixed verbs, which strengthen the utterance’s categorical and directive force. All these means function within a clear structural model of the magical text (invocation – amplification – command – culmination). Intensification in Ancient Greek magical texts is a multi-level phenomenon encompassing all linguistic levels and performing not only a stylistic but primarily a pragmatic function. It is aimed at maximizing illocutionary force and ensuring the effectiveness of the magical act. Redundancy and repetition appear not as stylistic flaws but as necessary conditions for the efficacy of ritual discourse.
The study is devoted to the cognitive-discursive analysis of the concept of JUSTICE in the English-speaking legal world picture. The object of study is the lexeme justice and its conceptual environment within legal discourse, and the subject is the frame structures, metaphorical projections and axiological coordinates that determine the cognitive architecture of the studied concept. The methodological basis of the work is an integrative approach that combines lexicographic-semantic analysis, frame modeling according to C. Fillmore and M. Minsky, the theory of conceptual metaphor by J. Lakoff and M. Johnson, as well as corpus analysis of collocations and the MIP metaphor identification procedure. As a result of the study, the core semantic components of the concept were established, namely BALANCE and IMPARTIALITY, four basic frames were identified (JUSTICE AS BALANCE, JUSTICE AS PROCEDURE, JUSTICE AS MORAL VALUE, JUSTICE AS AUTHORITY), and four metaphorical models were reconstructed, including JUSTICE IS SCALES, JUSTICE IS A PERSON, JUSTICE IS A BUILDING. A three-dimensional integrative model was proposed that combines the propositional, figurative-associative, and value-evaluative levels of the concept. It was established that JUSTICE functions as a super-concept of Anglo-American legal consciousness, integrating the legal and ethical dimensions. Prospects for further exploration are associated with the verification of the constructed model on the basis of judicial decisions of the US Supreme Court and the European Court of Human Rights.
