Emulsion polymerisation of radical polymerisable monomers in emulsions (I) contg. (a) polymer and (b) UV absorbers and/or anti-oxidants, wherein the contact angle of the polymer formed from monomers, is higher than that of (a) by 1-110 deg. Pref. (I) is obtd. by polymerising monomers e.g. (1) vinyl monomer contg. -COOH, (2) vinyl monomers contg. -OH (2-hydroxyethyl(meth)- or hydroxybutyl-acrylate or (meth)allyl alcohol), (3) vinyl monomers contg. -NH2, (4) vinyl monomers contg. -CN, (5) N-contg. vinyl monomers, (6) vinyl monomers contg. sulphonic- or phosphoric-acid gps., (7) alkyl (meth)acrylate, (8) vinyl-ester or -ether or (8) polyfunctional monomers (e.g. ethyleneglycol di(meth)acrylate or siallylphthalate). Total amt. of cpds. (b) and (c) is 0.01-50 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of monomers (I). The ratio of the emulsion and the radical polymerisation monomers is 0.1/99.9-90/10 by wt. (I) is selected from the monomer with hydrophilic property in comparison to the monomer used in emulsion (I).
USE/ADVANTAGE -Powder is obtd. by powdering the resin emulsion. The powder has superior glossiness, hiding power and resistance to weather or heat. Used for moulding- and sealing-materials, primers, binders or inks except for cosmetics.
