A discussion is presented on the conditions required and limitations of the guaranteeing of quality in water analysis as the basis for the necessary standardization of analytical methods. The following concepts are of particular importance: principle of analysis, method of analysis, technique of analysis, specification for analysis, measured value, analytical value, result of measurement, result of analysis, precision, repeatability, reproducibility, detection limit, determination limit, sensitivity and rate of retrieval. Prequisite for the ensuring of quality proper are the standard addition method and the ring analysis. In the water analysis the guaranteeing of quality is of particular importance due to the multifarious matrix as well as for the interpretation of the analytical results as a basis for important decisions in the national economy.
After their extraction from water, 16 water pollutants of the families of triazines, urea herbicides, phenoxycarboxylic acids and organochlorine and organophosphorus insecticides are separated and identified by thin-layer chromatography. The method is suitable for routine analyses and was tested on model waters, inclusive of water from the Elbe river. The rate of redetection is up to 80%, the detection limit is at 0.5… 2 μg of the individual pollutants.

A description is given of the thin-layer chromatographic determination of Triazine herbicides after the chloroform extraction and the detection with 0.1 N AgNO 3 solution and irradiation by ultraviolet light. For simazine, Atrazine and Prometryne the detection limits are at 0.05 μg. Disturbances can be avoided if two different mobile solvents are used and preliminary cleaning by means of thin-layer chromatography is done. The agreement of the Rf-values in two different mobile solvents with the Rf-values from known standard solutions is used as the criterion of identification.

The increasing loading of raw water for the drinking water supply with trace substances results in an increasing exposure of the population to toxicologically suspect substances. At present, the quality of such raw waters is evaluated mainly by cumulative parameters or individual substances with low eco- or humantoxicological relevance. Now, about 5 · 10 5 environment-relevant organic substances must be taken into account, the number of individual compounds for a loaded receiving water being estimated to be 10 3 . Secondary contaminations are caused by oxidative processes of water treatment. In the trace substance analysis so far only about 40% of the organic substances are isolable by comparatively simple methods. From this derives the demand for developing standardized methods for determining cumulative and group parameters with a high value of information and indication, as e. g. organically bonded chlorine or halogens.

AbstractFür ein Flußwasser wurde der Versuch unternommen, Relationen zwischen den Summenbestimmungsparametern CSV‐Cr, CSV‐Cr‐Spezial, DOC und UV‐Extinktion zu finden. Aus den ermittelten Meßwerten wurden Korrelationskoeffizienten und Regressionsgleichungen aufgestellt, die in drei Fällen eine lineare Abhängigkeit zwischen je zwei Parametern beweisen.
AbstractIn den letzten Jahren ist erneut eine Reihe von Veröffentlichungen zur Thematik des Kalk‐Kohlensäuregleichgewichtes erschienen. Bis heute bestehen unterschiedliche Auffassungen. Der Beitrag erläutert zusammenfassend die jetzigen Erkenntnisse sowie eigene Ergebnisse zur Analysenmethodik der Kohlensäurebestimmung.Die neueren Anschauungen zum Kalk‐Kohlensäuregleichgewicht beruhen überwiegend auf einer thermodynamischen Betrachtungsweise. Deshalb sei zunächst auf diese Grundlagen eingegangen. Die klassischen Betrachtungsweisen von TILLMANS; STROHECKER; LANGELIER werden als bekannt vorausgesetzt.
