Business process management is a widely used tool in practice nowadays. There are methodologies for business process management like EPC, BPMN 2.0, or S-BPM with different focuses and strengths. The subject-phase matrix S-PM follows the subject oriented paradigm of S-BPM focusing on subjects as the central concept. At the same time, S-PM provides a complete and clear overview of the overall process of all subjects. For this methodology a meta model is provided and the implementation of a web based modeling tool is described.
Security and privacy in computer systems is a major issue and it is hard to find a good compromise between necessary protection and desirable open access to the internet. We propose a subject-oriented approach to computer security analysis in order to comply with the users’ needs.
The project STERN aims to support German notaries to implement a secure electronic communication structure involving numerous governmental and private parties. Communication is an integral part of the business process in a notary's office and has to be handled economically. fast, easy. trustworthy. and secure. Therefore, a careful analysis of the notarial work flows is in order. A variety of process modeling techniques is explored to identify their suitability for distributed and communication intensive work flows. To identify the best modeling approach. evaluation criteria were established. Some typical tasks of the application domain were modeled with the different methods and finally presented to and discussed with notaries. The results of this study are presented and an outlook on the further course of the project is given.
Assumption-based reasoning — using an ATMS — suffers from severe performance problems when the number of assumptions becomes very large. This is due to the exponential growth of ATMS labels. We suggest a new approach (FRMS) that avoids this problem by extending the RMS with context management functionality. This gives the problem solver explicit control over the contexts it actually needs.
An electronic product catalogue (EPC) is a computer controlled information system with multimedia product presentations and navigation facilities. The paper presents the results of the EPK-fix project for the systematic construction of EPCs. These include a software engineering process model, a high level specification language for EPCs, and an integrated set of tools supporting the entire EPC development process. The EPK-fix process model supports the classical development phases: requirements analysis, specification and design, implementation, and test. In each of the phases emphasis is put on the particular multimedia aspects, human machine interaction, production of prototypes, and the quality of the produced documents.
