The complexity of mobile, ad hoc, and wireless networks requires thoroughly founded models capturing their essential characteristics and new optimization techniques building upon such models. Insights into both the theoretical aspects of these problems as well as practical methods and tools are necessary. This symposium, building upon the two successful WiOpt workshops, intends to bring together researchers and practitioners working on optimization issues from different perspectives, including performance analysis, mobile networking, wireless communi- cation, and optimization theory. Contributions to this conference should show new modeling and optimization techniques suit- able for mobile/wireless networks or innovative applications of these techniques to improve network operation. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: • Modeling techniques and tools for mobile/wireless networks • Performance characterisation & optimisation of mobile/wireless networks and systems • Mobile network optimisation: Applications, algorithms, and tools • Protocol design for optimal mobile network utilisation • Models and optimization approaches for energy efficiency, QoS, bandwidth economy and other aspects of mobile/wireless networks • Models and optimization techniques for non-standard network paradigms like sensor, ve- hicular, body area networks • Security and co-operation models for mobile networks • Pricing and incentives in mobile and ad-hoc networks
Dynamic memory allocation has been a fundamental part of most computer systems since roughly 1960, and memory allocation is widely considered to be either a solved problem or an insoluble one. In this survey, we describe a variety of memory allocator designs and point out issues relevant to their design and evaluation. We then chronologically survey most of the literature on allocators between 1961 and 1995. (Scores of papers are discussed, in varying detail, and over 150 references are given.)We argue that allocator designs have been unduly restricted by an emphasis on mechanism, rather than policy, while the latter is more important; higher-level strategic issues are still more important, but have not been given much attention.Most theoretical analyses and empirical allocator evaluations to date have relied on very strong assumptions of randomness and independence, but real program behavior exhibits important regularities that must be exploited if allocators are to perform well in practice.
ABSTRACTA study was conducted to determine the effect of soaking procedures on wastewater strength during canning of dried beans. Several soaking times (3, 6, 14 hr), temperatures (15°, 25°, 35°C) and soaking solutions (EDTA, citric acid, malic acid, H2O, deionized H2O) were studied. Wastewater strength was measured as Chemical Oxveen Demand (COD). Total Susoended Solids (TSS). and Total Phosphorus (TP). Reducing soaking times and temperature and the addition of EDTA reduced wastewater strength, while the addition of citric and malic acid increased wastewater strength. Navy beans generated more COD and TP than Pinto or Red Kidney beans. The wastewater strength from soaking Navy beans increased dramatically at 25° and 35°C as compared to 15°C. Significant interactions indicated that the type of soaking solution was of greater importance on Navy and Pinto beans than on Red Kidney.
