Abstract. Eleven new combinations are proposed in the recently established genus Blepharoglossum. Further, six names are found to be synonyms of earlier taxa in other genera and are here reduced to synonymy. Five names are also lectotypified, namely Dendrobium hastilabium, Eria dura, E. gracilicaulis, Habenaria zollingeri, and Trichotosia microbambusa.
A review of the genus Habenaria in Myanmar is presented. Fifty species are recognised, with 11 of them endemic to the country. Only 24 species are well-documented in Myanmar, being known from several to many collections, while the remaining 26 species are currently only known from one or two collections. An identification key to the species is provided. Accepted names and their place of publication, synonyms, citations in relevant floristic literature and type specimens are given in all taxa. We also provide short descriptions, a list of examined specimens from Myanmar, as well as notes on distribution, habitat ecology and flowering time. Colour photographs and black-and-white sketches of a number of species are also included.
The seventh paper of the series on orchid diversity in Vietnam includes descriptions of four species new to science (Goodyera umbonata, Myrmechis brachyscapa, Rhomboda obcordata, and Vietorchis proboscidea) and five new national records (Calanthe speciosa, Habenaria coultousii, Myrmechis urceolata, Paphiopedilum barbigerum var. barbigerum, and Peristylus affinis). Two new nomenclatural combinations, Rhomboda aurea (≡ Odontochilus aureus) and Odontochilus tonkinensis (≡ Anoectochilus tonkinensis), are proposed. Odontochilus putaoensis described from Myanmar and reported also from China and Laos is synonymized with Odontochilus umbrosus described 22 years earlier from Vietnam. Data on relevant synonyms and etymology are provided, along with morphological descriptions for the newly described species. For the species new to science and for the taxa reported for Vietnam for the first time, the information is given about studied specimens, ecology, phenology, distribution, and conservation status assessed according to the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria, accompanied by brief taxonomic notes and illustrations.
An update on nomenclature and taxonomy within the genus Xylobium is provided. The distribution of Xylobium miliaceum is extended from western South America to Venezuela. Xylobium subpulchrum is treated as a new synonym of X. stanhopeifolium. Miscellaneous notes are provided on overlooked transfers, misidentifications, and prior synonymy.
Eulophia myanmarica, a species new to science is herein described from Monywa District, Sagaing Region, Myanmar. The species superficially resembles E. andamanensis but differs significantly in having 5-veined petals and sepals, narrowly oblong dorsal sepal with acute, slightly cucullate apex, obliquely narrowly oblong-elliptic lateral sepals and obliquely triangular sidelobes of the labellum. Detailed morphological description, a colour plate, notes on phenology, distribution, and a provisional conservation assessment are provided below. With this discovery, Myanmar now holds a total number of 19 Eulophia species. Additionally, after merging the genus Geodorum under Eulophia, a new name is needed for Geodorum densiflorum, for which taxonomic notes have been provided.
Abstract. Additional names not accounted for in recent treatments of the orchids of Myanmar are noted, along with some other ancillary studies. Nine new combinations are proposed, viz. Brachypeza uniflora, Eulophia citrina, E. pulchella, Holcosia pseudotaiwaniana, H. taiwaniana, Phreatia emarginata, P. minuscula, P. perpusilla, and Vanda hennisiana. One new species is also proposed, viz. Cylindrolobus karenensis.
Recent fieldwork in Ha Giang province, Northern Vietnam resulted in the collection of Pholidota longipes , a species only known in South-Central China. Thus, we herein report the first record of the species for the Orchid Flora of Vietnam. Morphological description and illustrations based on living collected materials, data on phenology, geographical distribution, and taxonomic notes of related species are presented below. With this new record, Vietnam now holds a total number of 16 Pholidota species.
Dendrobium bandii is a poorly known species endemic to the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. We studied living specimens and we provide here an amended description of the species, colour photographs, as well as information on distribution, ecology, and its provisional conservation status. Dendrobium niveolabium Handoyo, Naive, Ormerod & Champion, a new species of Dendrobium section Grastidium is herein described and illustrated from Papua Province in Indonesia. Detailed description, colour plates, comparison with its allied taxa, phenology, distribution and a preliminary conservation assessment are provided.
A list of all Orchidaceae recorded for Myanmar is presented, primarily based on many years of research in herbaria and libraries around the world, supplemented by recent fieldwork in various parts of Myanmar. As such, it is intended to form the basis for a treatment of Orchidaceae in the new flora of Myanmar project. A total of 1037 species in 152 genera is listed, which includes a number of uncertain identifications and indicates the need for further research. In addition, for four taxa occurrence in Myanmar is also suspected, but the available herbarium and literature information is not conclusive in this regard. The total number is comparatively low relative to neighbouring Thailand but expected to rise, given the fact that biodiversity is currently poorly understood even though extensive inventory efforts are now under way. In the introduction, the orchid flora of Myanmar, phytogeographical affinities and endemism are discussed and illustrated by graphs and tables. Each species entry in the taxonomic section consists of the name, place of original description, type information (if from Myanmar), list of citations of Myanmar specimens examined and global distribution; specific notes under many species elaborate various taxonomic issues. Two new combinations are made here, and five lectotypes and one neotype are designated. Six species are definite new distribution records for Myanmar, whereas identification of another three needs to be confirmed.
Cirrhopetalum roseopunctatum is illustrated from the type specimen. It is found to be conspecific with the later Cirrhopetalum annamense. In Bulbophyllum the combined entities must be known as B. annamense due to the earlier B. roseopunctatum Schltr.
Crossoglossa puipuiensis Damián & Mitidieri (Orchidaceae) is described and illustrated as a new species from Peru. It differs from C. steinii by having an orbicular (vs. ovate to ovate–elliptic) labellum bearing at its base two, erect, subquadrate to rectangular (vs. prostrate, lanceolate to ovate) calli. Crossoglossa neirynckiana and C. dalessandroi are reported as new to the Peruvian flora.
A new Javan endemic Tuberolabium species, Tuberolabium camperenik Yudistira, Naive & Romiyadi, is herein described and illustrated. It is unique among the three Tuberolabium species found in Indonesia by having crystal white flowers and a long, very narrow spur not thickened on the front wall around the epichile. Detailed description, colour plates, phenology, distribution and a preliminary conservation assessment are provided in this paper.
An overview of the orchid genus Corybas in Vietnam is presented. It was known to be represented by a single species, C. annamensis. In this article, we report two new records, C. himalaicus, and C. geminigibbus. Detailed descriptions, synonyms, type data, information on ecology and phenology, distribution and color plates are provided for all three species along with the key to their identification. Gastrochilus pearcei is described as new from Bhutan, and Eria khasiana is transferred to Cylindrolobus.
Abstract. Two additions are proposed for the Solomon Islands orchid flora. Dendrobium biflorum is a new record, while D. stella-portus is proposed as a new species.
A new species of Pinalia, P. taunggyiensis, is described and illustrated based on a single collection from Myanmar.
A new Philippine endemic species, Stichorkis davidlohmanii, is herein described and illustrated. This new species is comparable to S. compressa but distinct by its obovate, slightly conduplicate labellum with a blunt, obtusely rounded when flattened apex.
The genus Rhomboda Lindley (1857: 181), belonging to the family Orchidaceae (Orchidoideae: Cranichideae: Goodyerinae), was first described by John Lindley with a single species, viz. R. longifolia Lindley (1857: 181). Bentham (1881: 346) reduced Rhomboda to Hetaeria Blume (1825: 409), but Hooker (1890: 109) transferred it to Zeuxine Lindley (1826: 9). Tang & Wang (1951: 34) included R. longifolia in Odontochilus Blume (1858: 66), overlooking the priority of Rhomboda over Odontochilus. Finally, Ormerod (1995) reinstated Rhomboda and reviewed its generic affinities, circumscription and clarified some of the confusions about the genus. Rhomboda is characterised by a labellum with large, saccate hypochile having two glands within (one at either side), medially with a bicarinate, semidiscoid keel, hypochile outside with a narrow flange each side, the column with two large medial wings, and a short rostellum.
