主要研究致密天体(中子星、不同尺度的黑洞等)产生的的高能天体物理现象,包括伽玛射线暴和潮汐瓦解事件。伽玛射线暴是仅次于宇宙大爆炸的剧烈爆发现象,研究表明它与大质量恒星死亡、双中子星或中子星-黑洞并合相关。伽玛暴是LIGO探测引力波事件的主要电磁对应体,是研究恒星演化和死亡、致密天体以及宇宙学的重要天体对象。潮汐瓦解事件是宁静星系中心超大质量黑洞撕裂恒星的现象,是探寻隐藏大质量黑洞的重要方式,同时也是探究黑洞的性质、星系核区环境及黑洞增长的良好天体物理实验室。
