Career Trajectory
Bio
The sphingolipid pathway (involving the generation of ceramide or SIP, with a first step consisting of sphingomyelin hydrolysis) is proinflammatory, and is activated by stressors, particularly cytokines and oxidative stress. This pathway plays an important role in the development of cancers, metabolic, neurodegenerative or inflammatory diseases. Its role in atherosclerosis is hypothesized from indirect observations (biological effects on cultured cells or tissues). My main research project aims to study the role of the sphingolipid pathway in the context of the two vascular diseases, atherosclerosis and transplant vasculopathy. The purpose of this project is to propose new therapeutic targets to modulate the development of these vascular injuries by specifically targeting the pathway sphingolipids.
