Prof. Hofbauer has got more than 30 years of experience in thermal biomass utilization and he has been coordinator of numerous European as well as national projects in this field. Especially in the field of biomass gasification he has developed a novel technology which is well known as the Güssing lighthouse project. He is key researcher in the competence center "BIOENERGY 2020+ " Area Gasification" and head of the Strategy Board of this competence center. More than 20 years he has been Austrian representative in IEA-BIOENERGY and he was active in several tasks (e.g. combustion, gasification) as well in the Executive Committee. He is author or co-author of a large number of scientific publications and he is frequently invited for keynote lectures in these fields.
