M.E. Zakrzewska has a diversified experience in Biochemistry and Chemical Engineering, and a career developed in Poland, England, and Portugal. She has two MSc degrees, in the Environmental Protection Technology (2007) and Biotechnology (2008), from courses done in parallel at the Gdańsk University of Technology, Poland, and the PhD degree in Sustainable Chemistry (2016) from the NOVA School of Science and Technology, Portugal. After her PhD studies (interrupted by a one-year maternity leave), she was granted two competitive postdoctoral fellowships (LAQV/BPD/031/2016, SFRH/BPD/122655/2016), to be subsequently contracted, through an international call, to work, firstly, at the Centro de Química Estrutural (CQE), Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, and currently, at NOVA School of Science and Technology, within the PTDC/EQU-EPQ/31926/2017 project.
Over the years, M. Zakrzewska has participated in 7 national projects, and the European KET4F-GAS project co-funded by the Interreg Sudoe Programme through the European Regional Development Fund. In 2021, M.E. Zakrzewska won as the Principal Investigator the highly competitive national call (50 k€) for R&D Projects in All Scientific Domains of the Portuguese national funding agency for science, research and technology (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, FCT), in Chemical Engineering domain (EXPL/EQU-EPQ/1039/2021).
M. Zakrzewska has published with 57 various co-authors, resulting in 21 articles in international peer-review journals Q1 (16/21) or Q2 (3/21), with 5 in open-access and in 11 as a first author. Two of her highly cited reviews, in Chemical Reviews and Energy & Fuels, were ranked in the top 1% of its academic field in a given year (Web of Science). Other contributions include 1 book, 1 book chapter, and 1 conference proceedings. All contributions are supported by an h-index of 10, with 1283 citations (Scopus, March 08, 2022).
M.E. Zakrzewska has attended 25 conferences/scientific meetings (played an active role in an organisation of 5), and accounted for 15 oral (9 as presenting author), and 7 poster (8 as presenting author) communications, and 1 invited lecture. Since 2019, she has served as the Guest Editor for the Special Issue in C – Journal of Carbon Research, as the Guest Co-Editor for the Special Issue in Catalysts (ongoing) and for the Topical Collection in C, all of MDPI. Additionally, she is member of the Topical Advisory Panel of Catalysts (Environmental Catalysis Section) (MDPI), the Portuguese Chemistry Society, and the Post-doctoral Association.
In the 2019/2020 academic year she started to teach laboratory classes of basic chemistry. Till now, she has been the principal supervisor of 3 MSc, 2 BSc (1 ongoing), and 1 student with research initiation scholarship.
M.E. Zakrzewska has a broad theoretical and experimental background in high-pressure chemical reaction, separation, and extraction processes. She has a significant expertise in scCO2 phase behaviour studies of complex, multicomponent and multiphase, mixtures, and their influence on a reaction kinetics.
