个人简介
Anissa Abi-Dargham, MD, is a Professor of Psychiatry and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Psychiatry in Stony Brook University, NY. She was born in Beirut, Lebanon, where she went to Medical School in Saint Joseph’s University. She moved to the US in 1985, did her residency at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, TN, followed by a research fellowship at the National Institute for Mental Health. She then joined the Faculty at Yale University, and moved to Columbia University in 1996, where she spent most of her career. She retains an appointment as Professor Emerita of Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University.
She is an expert in the areas of molecular imaging, pharmacology, schizophrenia and addiction. She has received funding from NIMH, NIDA and NIAAA, as well as various pharmaceutical companies and charitable foundations.
At Stony Brook, Dr Abi-Dargham will continue her own research in advancing our understanding of the neurobiology of severe mental illness and she will use novel therapeutics for treatment of comorbidity and resistance. She will also oversee research within the department, with particular emphasis on translational multimodal imaging research and collaborations across disciplines. Her goals are to facilitate research and promote the careers of faculty and fellows.
Research Interests Dr Abi-Dargham uses Positron Emission Tomography imaging to study the neurobiology of brain disorders. Her research has resulted in seminal findings describing the complex alterations of dopamine transmission in schizophrenia and their relationship to clinical symptoms, cognition and response to treatment. More recently she built a multidisciplinary team with expertise in neurocomputational and neurocognitive disciplines. She currently is funded by NIMH to examine the neurobiological correlates of auditory processing in health and disease: an RDoC study (1R01 MH109635-01). The goal is to image dopamine receptor release and identify molecular and neural correlates of auditory perceptual disturbances in psychosis. She is also interested in examining the cholinergic system using PET molecular imaging as a correlate for altered dopamine release in schizophrenia.
