Dr. Carty maintains an active interest in research in organometallic chemistry and new materials. He has 318 publications in peer reviewed journals, and five patents to his credit. He is a former President of the Canadian Society for Chemistry, a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. He also has many awards, including the Rio Tinto Alcan Award, the E.W.R. Steacie Award of the Canadian Society for Chemistry, and the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee and Diamond Jubilee Medals, among others. He has been accorded 14 honorary degrees from foreign and Canadian universities as well as three honorary professorships. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada and has been honoured by France as Officier de l’Ordre National du Mérite.
