个人简介
Developed over thirty generations of novel intelligent and context aware wearable computing systems, several generations of virtual coaches and personal cognitive assistants. Prof Smailagic is a Fellow of IEEE for his contributions to Wearable Computers, Context Aware Computing and Pervasive Computing. Dr. Smailagic received the 2000 Allen Newell Award for Research Excellence from CMU's School of Computer Science, the 2003 Carnegie Science Center Award for Excellence in Information Technology, the 2003 Steve Fenves Systems Research Award from the CMU College of Engineering, the 2013 Award of Merit, CIT Information Technology Media Fellowship, CMU, and other prestigious awards. He was the Leader of the Virtual Coaches Research Thrust in the NSF Engineering Research Center on Quality of Life Technology at CMU, combining machine learning, sensors and image analysis. Dr. Smailagic received the Fulbright post-doctoral fellowship which he completed in the Computer Science Department at Carnegie Mellon University in 1988. Prof. Smailagic was program chairman of IEEE conferences more than 10 times, program chair of three international symposia on Quality of Life Technology (NSF and CMU), and chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Wearable Information Systems. He was associate editor and guest editor in leading technical journals, such as IEEE Trans. on Mobile Computing, IEEE Trans. on VLSI Systems, IEEE Trans. on Computers, IEEE Trans. on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, Journal on VLSI Signal Processing and Journal on Pervasive Computing. His book on Digital System Design and Prototyping Using Field Programmable Logic and Hardware Description Languages, Springer, co-authored with Z. Salcic, was used as a textbook at over twenty U.S. and Canadian universities. His another book Application Design of Wearable Computers, co-authored with D. Siewiorek and T. Starner, is among top two most downloaded Morgan & Claypool books in the area of mobile and pervasive computing. He has co-developed a new methodology that enables students to develop new types and generations of mobile intelligent computing systems in just one semester class. He gave keynote talks at a number of conferences, such as IEEE International Conference on Machine Learning and Applications, IEEE VLSI Symposium and others.
