个人简介
Research interests and honors
My research interests focus on sociolinguistics, with special emphasis on language conversion. My current project is a manuscript of a book, which analyzes the process of transformation from the perspectives of economy, politics, religion and race. This book points out the important role of community institutions and boundaries in isolating social networks, and compares the changes of several communities in the United States.
My interest in language conversion is mainly motivated by language revival. If we can understand the process leading to the disappearance of endangered languages, we can also cooperate with the community to promote their development. As a member of Cherokee Indian East Band, the mission of language revival is my greatest concern.
I am particularly interested in inspiring students to understand how classroom knowledge can be applied to the real social environment. In my course "Threatened Languages in America", I encourage students to consult census data to supplement their historical knowledge about community development. This helps to form a picture of how the shift situation unfolds.
In 2013, I won a postdoctoral scholarship for diversified teachers in Carolina. During that time, I won the Service Commitment Award from the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs.
