Christian Bessiere received a PhD in Computer Science in 1992. He is a research director at CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique). He was deputy director of the department of Computer Science of LIRMM at University of Montpellier from 2007 to 2010. He has been elected a fellow of the European Coordinating Committee for Artificial Intelligence. He was the organizing committee chair of European Conference on Artificial Intelligence in 2012. He served as area chair and senior program committee member of the main conferences on AI (IJCAI, AAAI, ECAI, CP). He is an associate editor of the Artificial Intelligence journal, he is on the advisory board of the Constraints journal, and he was an associate editor of the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research from 2007 to 2011. He has been a member of the Executive Committee and the treasurer of the Association for Constraint Programming (ACP). He was an invited lecturer at the International Conference on Principles and Practice of Constraint Programming (CP) in 1999 and was the program chair of that conference in 2007. He published more than 100 papers among which more than 70 in the main journals and conferences on Artificial Intelligence (Artificial Intelligence, Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research, IJCAI, AAAI, CP). One of them received the "Distinguished Paper Award" at the CP conference and one received an honorable mention at the "AAAI Classic Paper Award".
