个人简介
I am a coastal geographer and Dean's Chair in the Department of Geography, NUS. My research uses the framework of ecosystem services to investigate changes to coastal ecosystems (particularly mangrove forests), and how best to protect them. I am particularly interested in:
1) the ecosystem services of mangrove forests, particularly blue carbon
2) how mangroves are impacted by deforestation, and the implications for ecosystem services (e.g., carbon emissions)
3) how mangroves respond to sea-level rise (shallow surface elevation change)
4) policy and restoration options for mangrove conservation, including establishing our own mangrove restoration project in Singapore
I investigate these questions integrating a range of field-based and remote sensing techniques. Much of this research is conducted with Government agencies, NGOs and academic collaborators in SE Asia. For more information visit my lab website at www.themangrovelab.com.

I am the Deputy Director for the newly established NUS Centre for Nature-based Climate Solutions, a cross-university initiative focused on producing policy-relevant science that helps to tackle climate change by protecting and managing our natural ecosystems. I am a Lead PI for the NRF-funded project Assessing Singapore's Natural Capital. In this project, a team of ~40 researchers from academic and government institutions are working together to conduct the first assessment of Singapore's terrestrial, coastal and marine ecosystems and their ecosystem services, and creating decision-making and policy tools to aid environmental and urban planning.
