I manage the Social Dynamics team. The network of 2020 will connect everything. In this new scenario of interconnected things, people will, almost more than ever before, matter. The team works on the idea of a society empowered by digital data with the goal of finding solutions to real problems, contributing to generalisable knowledge. As part of the emerging research area of “Computational Social Science”, we answer questions typical of the social sciences using computational methods and produce long-term research (in very ‘Bell Labs’ style). The team focuses on its core expertise of data analysis and works at the boundaries of existing research areas - e.g., data mining, computer vision, mobile computing, interaction design, complex networks, social psychology, and urban planning - to shape the boundaries of a new one.
