David Belanger received the B.S. degree in mathematics from Union College, Schenectady, NY, USA, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, USA. He is currently a Senior Lecturer with the Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, USA. He retired as a Chief Scientist of American Telephone and Telegraph (AT&T) Labs, including 15 years as the Vice President of Information, Software, & Systems Research with the AT&T Labs, and a Creator of the AT&T InfoLab (InfoLab was a very early participant in “Big Data” research and practice). Prior to that, he was the Head of the Software Engineering Research Department, AT&T Bell Labs. Prior to AT&T, he was an Associate Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science with the University of South Alabama, and the Co-Founder of the Gulf Coast Data Systems (a computing services company). He currently holds 35 U.S. Patents. His current research interests include research and consulting on big data, machine learning, and AI research organization. Prof. Belanger is currently the Co-Chair of the IEEE Big Data Community, and the Chair of the IEEE Data Port Project and Steering Committee for the IEEE Transactions on Big Data. He was the recipient of an AT&T Science and Technology Medal in 1998, AT&T Fellow Designation in 2006, IEEE Communications Society Industrial Innovator Award in 2009, IEEE Senior Membership, and ACM Distinguished Engineer Level.
