Dimitrios Tzovaras is a Senior Researcher A’ (Professor) in the Informatics and Telematics Institute of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas. Since August 2010, he is also a Visiting Professor in the Imperial College London. He received the Diploma degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Ph.D. degree in 2D and 3D image compression from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1992 and 1997, respectively. He has then worked as Senior Researcher, working on 3D imaging, at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His main research interests include computer vision, virtual reality, search and retrieval of multimedia content, biometrics, assistive technologies and 3D image analysis. His involvement with those research areas has led to the co-authoring of more than 70 papers in refereed journals and more than 200 papers in international conferences. He has served as a regular reviewer for a number of international journals and conferences. Since 1992, he has been involved in more than 100 projects in Greece, funded by the European Commission and the Greek Secretariat of Research and Technology. Dr. Tzovaras is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Signal Processing Letters and the EURASIP Journal of Applied Signal Processing. He is member of IEEE, EURASIP and the Technical Chamber of Greece.
