Prof. Do Hyang Kim’s current research is focused on the metallic alloy design including metallic glasses and conventional light alloy systems. Over the last 15 years, he was involved actively in design of metallic alloys using a concept of crystallinity variables, i.e. using a combination of crystalline, quasicrystalline and amorphous structures. Currently, his main research area on metallic glass is 1) design of crystalline phase reinforced metallic glass matrix composites exhibiting a good combination of mechanical properties for structural applications such as in MEMS application, and 2) design of metallic glass exhibiting a good combination of wettability and oxidation resistance for functional application of metallic glasses such as in electronic devices. His another main research area is on the development light weight alloys for application such as in automotive and aerospace industries. Recently, he is mainly involved in design of magnesium based alloys for casting and wrought applications. His research on magnesium based alloys is focused on the development of high strength alloys with enhanced toughness and formability.
