A/Prof Dongryeol Ryu is the Discipline Leader of Environmental Hydrology and Water Resources (EHWR) Group in the Department of Infrastructure Engineering at The University of Melbourne. He leads the Melbourne Environmental Sensing and Modelling Lab (MESML) with a special interest in surface water hydrology and microwave remote sensing.
A/Prof Ryu works on on developing methods to utilise remote sensing instrument (microwave, optical and thermal sensors) in monitoring soil moisture and vegetation over agricultural and natural landscapes. He also develops novel methods to integrate hydrological/crop models with in situ and remotely sensed observations to improve conventional model-based predictions. Lastly he uses coupled Earth System Model to investigate how agricultural actives and large in-land water bodies influence regional climate. A/Prof Ryu is a past recipient of a NASA Earth System Science Graduate Fellowship and the University of California, Irvine Medal Fellowship.
