I am an Assistant Professor at theDavid R. Cheriton School of Computer Scienceat University of Waterloo. I study new techniques for motivating participation and combining human and machine intelligence to tackle complex tasks in crowdsourcing systems, and how these systems can address problems in science and medicine. I am part of theHuman Computer Interaction Lab. My work is funded by NSERC Discovery Grant as well as theNSERC-CIHR Collaborative Health Research Project (CHRP)program. As part of my research, we are building two platforms for scientific and medical crowdsourcing:CrowdCurioandCrowdEEG. Previously, I was aCRCSpostdoctoral fellow at Harvard University. I graduated with a Ph.D. in Machine Learning fromCarnegie Mellon Universityin 2012. Here is my (always slightly out of date)curriculum vitaeand list ofpublications.
