His research interests include machine learning (domain adaptation, deep, on-line, incremental, and weakly-supervised learning), pattern recognition, computer vision, and information fusion, with applications in affective computing, biometrics, medical image analysis, and video analytics and surveillance. He has (co-)authored over 200 peer-reviewed papers and (co-)supervised over 50 graduate students in these areas of research. His recent research mainly involves techniques for domain adaptation, active and weakly supervised learning and spatio-temporal recognition with deep learning architectures. He serves on the editorial boards for Elsevier Pattern Recognition (since 2018) and EURASIP Journal of Image and Video Processing (since 2015).
