Eric M. V. HoekProfessor

Dr. Eric Hoek is an internationally recognized expert in membrane technology research, commercialization and application water treatment, desalination and reuse.
Over the past 20 years, Dr. Hoek has been a UCLA environmental engineering professor and a co-inventor and/or co-founder of numerous successful water technology startups, including NanoH2O, Water Planet, PolyCera, IntelliFlux and MembranePRO. Dr. Hoek has also served as a consultant to municipal water authorities, water technology startups, hedge funds, venture capital funds, law firms, private research foundations, non-profit foundations, US federal, state and local agencies and foreign national research agencies.
As a UCLA environmental engineering professor, consultant and entrepreneur, Dr. Hoek has worked on drinking water treatment, wastewater treatment, ocean and brackish water desalination, oil & gas produced water treatment, municipal and industrial water reuse and oil spill remediation. Dr. Hoek has over 130 peer-reviewed scientific publications, over 70 patents filed in the U.S. and internationally, and serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Nature journal npj Clean Water.
Dr. Hoek has a Ph.D. in Engineering from Yale University and completed UCLA Anderson’s Executive Management and Director Education & Certification Programs.
