Dr. Blomberg joined the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Conservation Biology in October 2013. Prior to moving to Orono, Dr. Blomberg held a position as a wildlife biologist with the USGS Western Ecological Research Center in Reno, Nevada. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Nevada, Reno, in the Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology Program; and an M.Sc. from the University of Rhode Island in the Department of Natural Resources Science. Dr. Blomberg’s research interests focus on wildlife population dynamics and demographics, and in related demographic processes with environmental drivers to inform species conservation. Students working in Dr. Blomberg’s lab are presently focused on gamebirds (ruffed grouse, spruce grouse, American woodcock), bats, and American eels, and Dr. Blomberg is also actively involved in research related to greater sage-grouse in the western U.S. Dr. Blomberg teaches undergraduate courses in Wildlife Population Dynamics (WLE 410/411), Gamebird Ecology (WLE 435) and is a regular co-instructor for the Department’s two-week field course held each May (WLE 250). At the graduate level, he teaches courses in Demographic Analysis and Applied Population Ecology (WLE 650).
