Etelvina Figueira (PhD, DSc) is an Assistant Professor at the University of Aveiro. Presently she coordinates four courses of the Biology and Biotechnology BSc programs related to biochemistry, metabolism, plant physiology and enzymology. Her MANAGEMENT activity includes: 1) vice-directory of the PhD program in in Biology and Ecology of Global Changes (2020 to present), Biotechnology Bachelor (2012 to present), Biotechnology Master (2018 to present) and Applied Biology Master degrees (2019 to present); 2) coordination of the Erasmus and Erasmus+ mobility programs for the Biology area (2011 to present); 3) member of Departmental Board-responsible for Education (1st and 2nd cycles) (2011-2019). Her RESEARCH activity includes: 1) leadership of the Rhizobacterial Laboratory (Rhizolab); 2) integrated member of the associate laboratory CESAM (2013 to present) in the Biogeochemical Processes & Pollutants group (2020 to present); 3) PI, co-PI and participant in finished and ongoing projects from FCT, LIFE, PRR, Interreg and CRUP; 4) author or co-authorship of 168 papers (Scopus), 7 book chapters, an h-index of 40 (Scopus), an i10-index of 118 (Google Scholar) and 4542 citations (Scopus); 5) Member of the Editorial Board of Env. Exp. Bot. and reviewer of high impact journals (top 10%); 6) member of the Scientific Society SEFIN. Her SUPERVISION activity includes: 60 postgraduate students (postdoc, doctoral and masters) and nearly 100 undergraduate students (end-of-course and internship work), some of them in partnership with international institutions. Her DOMAINS of SPECIALIZATION include Biochemistry, Metabolomics, Biotechnology, Toxicology, Microbiology, Plant physiology, Plant microbe interactions. Her RESEARCH INTERESTS are related to: 1) biochemical and metabolomics approaches in different organisms, primarily bacteria and plants, subjected to drought and temperature stresses; 2) promotion of plant growth by organic compounds (volatile and non-volatile) synthesized by rhizobacteria; 3) increased tolerance of plants to abiotic (temperature, drought, metals) and biotic (biocontrol of fungal infections in crops like maize and soya) stresses.
