He is currently with Physics Department of the University of Florence, Italy. His major research topic is the modelling of light propagation through diffusive media and the development of inversion procedures to retrieve the optical properties of diffusive media from time-resolved and spatially-resolved measurements. He has studied the modelling of photon transport with numerical simulations and with analytical theories, i.e., using both Monte Carlo simulations and analytical solutions derived from the diffusion equation or from the radiative transfer equation. He has conducted many research investigations on the determination of the optical properties of biological tissues by using time-resolved and spatially-resolved near-infrared spectroscopic measurements. He has experience on the inverse problem implemented with standard nonlinear regression procedures and with analytical solutions of the diffusion equation.
