Professor Fengzhou Fang has been working in manufacturing science and technology with specialist areas of interest including micro/nano manufacturing, optical freeform manufacturing, medical device/implants manufacturing, ultra-precision manufacturing and metrology. Amongst the applications areas are in medical devices, bio-medical implants, aspheric and freeform optical systems, aerospace and engineering components. Fengzhou has worked with over hundred industrial partners assisting companies to develop their R&D activities. He has published over 300 papers in peer reviewed journals and 60 patents. He is a Fellow of the International Society for Nanomanufacturing (ISNM), the International Academy of Engineering and Technology (AET), the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).

He is currently the President of CIRP, the Editor-in-Chief of Nanomanufacturing and Metrology (NMME), and Member of Royal Irish Academy (RIA).
