Theoretical physicist (particle/condensed matter/statistical mechanics) turned biological physicist (interplay of genetic and generic/physical mechanisms in early embryonic development) turned tissue engineer (pioneered 3D bioprinting to build functional living structures/tissues/organoids) turned entrepreneur (scientific founder of three companies).
Close to 30 years of academic career (research and teaching), partially swapped for translating accomplishments into the marketplace. Organovo (launched 2007; NYSE) translates bioprinting into applications in drug testing/development/building of therapeutic tissues. Modern Meadow (launched 2011) and Fork & Goode (launched 2018) translates tissue engineering technologies to making cell-based animal products (leather and meat) without slaughtering animals, damage to the environment and with significantly less natural resources than the corresponding industries.
