Since 2000, he has been Chairman of the Telecommunication Engineering course, which was created from the merging of the Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Telecommunications Engineering.He was in charge of the scientific research contracts with the National Research Council (CNR), the Italian Space Agency (ASI), the Ministry of Defence, and other public and private entities. Prof. Manara is the author of over 100 papers published in international journals with reviewers, and over 200 papers presented at international conferences. He has organized several special sessions for the most prestigious conferences in the world in the field of applied electromagnetism. His most recent research interests include: the design of microwave antennas with application to broadband wireless networks, the design of frequency selective surfaces, and metamaterials. He has worked on asymptotic and numerical techniques for the analysis of electromagnetic scattering and antenna systems, both in the frequency domain and the time domain. In this context, he has paid particular attention to the electromagnetic modeling applied to the active microwave remote sensing, electromagnetic compatibility, the proposed high-frequency antennas and frequency selective surfaces (FSS). He has also dedicated himself to the study of new technologies for wireless broadband networks and systems and radio frequency identification (RFID). Since 2007 he has been the Italian Representative for the National Research Council (CNR), in the “Fields and Electromagnetic Waves” B Committee of the International Scientific Radio Union (URSI). In August 2008, the Assembly of National Representatives of the URSI Member Countries elected him Vice-Chair of the B Committee for the period 2009-2011.
