Bio
Hans-Jürgen Möller was born in 1945 and studied medicine at the University of Göttingen and Hamburg in the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1972 he undertook his medical degree and proceeded to postgraduate training in psychiatry at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Munich. In 1982, he became professor of psychiatry at the Psychiatric Department of the Technical University in Munich and moved in 1988 to become professor of psychiatry and chairman of the Psychiatric Department at the University of Bonn. Since 1994 he has been professor of psychiatry and Chairman of the Psychiatric Department at the University of Munich.
Professor Dr. Möller’s main research interests are the methodology of psychiatry, diagnostic procedures, evaluative research, suicidology, clinical psychopharmacology, and gerontopsychiatry. He has published more than 400 original papers and reviews in German and international publications and is the author or editor of several books. Additionally, Professor Dr. Möller is president of the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry, president of the Association of Neuropsychopharmacology and former president of the German Society of Biological Psychiatry. He joined IPA’s Board of Directors in 1992 and was elected to a second term in 1996. Professor Dr. Möller chaired the organizing committee for the 1998 joint meeting of IPA and several German and European societies, which took place in Munich.
