Hélène Esnault (born 1953 in Paris) is a French and German mathematician, specializing in algebraic geometry. She received her PhD in 1976 under Professor Lê Dũng Tráng, writing her dissertation on Singularites rationnelles et groupes algebriques (Rational singularities and algebraic groups).She became the Einstein Professor at Freie Universität Berlin in 2012, after working previously at the University of Duisburg-Essen, the Max-Planck-Institut für Mathematik in Bonn, and at the University of Paris VII: Denis Diderot.
In 2003 she won the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize with her husband, Eckart Viehweg, for her contributions to algebraic geometry. In 2014 she was elected to the Academia Europaea
