Hyun-Tak Kim as a physicist has performed the theoretical and experimental researches on the Mott metal-insulator transition (MIT) over 20 years, in order to reveal the mechanism of the Mott MIT as an unsolved problem and a new phenomenon in solid-state physics for strongly correlated systems.
He derived a formula with divergence indicating the Mott MIT (Hole-driven MIT), and discovered the decoupling of the MIT and the structural phase transition; these are disclosed in a lot of his papers on the Mott MIT. Moreover he has developed MIT technologies and fabricated reliable MIT devices over 10 years in ETRI and tried to commercialize devices of the Mott MIT explained by his formula through making a company called ‘ETRI-MITech’ to spread his research. Finally, he wish the developed MIT technologies and the discovery contribute to happy and peace of human beings.
