Ioannis Papoutsis

Ioannis Papoutsis received the Diploma in electrical and computer engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Athens, Greece, in 2002, the M.Sc. degree in technologies for broadband communications from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University College London, London, U.K., in 2003, and the Ph.D. degree in remote sensing from NTUA in 2014. He leads Orion Lab, a research group that has been established in the intersection of NTUA and National Observatory of Athens, Athens, Greece. In the past, he was involved in the Copernicus program as the Operations Manager of the Greek node of European Space Agency Hubs that distribute Sentinel data, and as the Copernicus Emergency Management Services Manager for Risk and Recovery. He has participated in several research projects funded mainly from the European Commission, the European Space Agency, and Copernicus initiatives. His research interests include AI4EO impactful applications, with a focus on climate change, natural disasters management, monitoring and forecasting, and earth system sciences.
