Iulia Ilie

Dr. Iulia Ilie graduated in 2010 from "Ovidius" University of Constanta, Romania with a Bsc in Computer Science. In 2012 she obtained a MSc in Mathematical Modelling from the same institution. In 2019 she was awarded a PhD by the department of Computer Science in Friedrich Schiller University, Jena, Germany, after having been part of the Max Planck Society doctoral school, "International Max Planck Research School for Global Biogeochemical Cycles" starting in 2012. Her doctoral work was on "CMAGEP: a new method for automatic model discovery from data and its application to terrestrial ecosystem carbon exchange fluxes." Between 2017 and 2019 she was a postdoctoral researcher in the "Machine Learning & Statistics" research group at Insight Centre for Data Analytics, at University College Dublin, Ireland, where she focused on explainable AI for multivariate time series classification. Since 2020 she has been with Siemens as an AI Research Engineer in the Data Analytics and AI Configurations group in Siemens Technology department, where she is involved in various research projects in the field of Machine Learning. Dr. Ilie's expertise and interest areas lie in: biology inspired machine learning, evolutionary computing, eXplainable AI, machine learning approaches for time series and others.
