He has authored over 400 publications and holds several patents. His research interests include the development of modern technology for electron-spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy both in the development of modern spectrometers and in the theoretical interpretation of ESR experiments designed to elucidate the structural dynamics of complex fluids, such as liquid crystals and membranes and the structure/function of membrane proteins and protein complexes.,Prof. Freed is a fellow of American Physical Society, in 1976, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, in 1994, the Royal Society of Chemistry, in 2009, and American Association for the Advancement of Science, in 2009.
