Initially trained as an MD, Jean-Christophe Renauld became acquainted with basic research at the de Duve Institute in Brussels. He is teaching Immunology at the medical school of the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL) since 1999 and his research activity at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research focused on the identification of new cytokines such as Interleukin-9 (IL-9) and IL-22. He is coauthor of 200 peer-reviewed articles and 30 patents, and received the international Inbev Baillet Latour Health prize in 2000. He has been appointed pro-rector for research at UCL in 2014.
