Research summary
I am interested in how the human mind (and brain) is able to understand spoken and written language.
My current research focus is on the role of learning mechanisms in language comprehension. We study how adult listeners learn entirely new word meanings, but also how they adjust their representations of words and their meaning on the basis of their recent experience with these words to improve later communication.
I study these questions using behavioural paradigms (particularly web-based experiments that allow testing for large populations of language users), as well as using techniques such as fMRI and TMS that give insights into the underlying neural mechanisms.
