Research summary
Research Interests
Dr Malkinson’s research focuses primarily on solid-phase synthesis and the development of methodology to synthesise complex peptides and modified peptide conjugates, particularly with activity against drug-resistant bacterial infection, or as potential anti-cancer agents. Targets of current interest include cyclic peptides and depsipeptides, glyco- and lipopeptides and natural products (such as the quinoxaline antibiotics, chlorofusin, daptomycin and the iturins). Recent research has also investigated the total synthesis of bioactive small molecules from plant sources, including glycoresins and substituted phloroglucinols, as well as (glyco)peptides related to mycobacterial peptidoglycan. Research has been funded by the BBSRC, EPSRC, AICR, The Heptagon Fund, The University of London, The Bloomsbury Consortium and Union Life Sciences.
