Bio
Karen L. Andrews was born in Fargo, ND, USA, in 1958. She received the B.A. degree in biochemistry from Smith College, Northampton, MA, USA, in 1980, the M.D. degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine in 1985, and the Residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation from the University of Michigan in 1989. She joined the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Mayo Clinic, in 1991, where she has been serving as the Chair of Amputee Rehabilitation Services since 1995.
She has been an Associate Professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation with the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science since 2013. She has authored 27 peer reviewed articles and 15 book chapters. Her research interests include: rehabilitation of persons with amputations; transcutaneous oxygen tension (TcPO2s) to predict healing; arterial, venous, and neuropathic wounds; intermittent pneumatic compression to enhance perfusion and wound healing; and prosthetic rehabilitation.
Dr. Andrews is a member of the Executive Board of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics; an Active Member of the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation; the Chair of the Publications Committee of ISPO (Prosthetics Orthotics International). She served as an NIH Grant Reviewer and a Reviewer of the Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (PRORP and OPORP).
