I develop embedded cognitive techniques for complex physical systems. I designed and built an optimization and learning system that adaptively learns and suppresses a wide variety of electromagnetic interference. I was one of the team who analyzed the data from Shuttle Colombia after it exploded. I led an elder-care project that monitored the homes of eleven elders for six months, and was the first system of its nature. I have led projects of up to 20 engineers, starting from initial concept formation and seeing it through to development, testing, and fielding. I love developing ideas and have written many proposals to customers, including DARPA, NASA, and NIST. I have led and participated in other strategic planning and business development activities, including customer visits and opportunity tracking. In 2007, I led a study in DARPA's Information Science and Technology (ISAT) advisory council, providing inputs for DARPA's long-term vision. In addition to 70 publications, I hold 5 awarded patents and 16 pending patents. I speak fluent French and good Mandarin Chinese. I am a citizen of the USA, Canada and the UK.
