个人简介
Katrien Fransen received her PhD on shared leadership in sports teams in 2014 at KU Leuven. Within the department of Movement Sciences, she currently holds the position of Assistant Professor in Performance Sport (Leadership & Coaching).
Her research activities focus on leadership in sports teams, and more specifically on the leadership of athletes within the team. Over the past years, she has collected extensive evidence on the different leadership roles athletes occupy, on leaders’ attributes, and on the impact these athlete leaders have on the team’s effectiveness. The obtained findings clearly argue for the implementation of a structure of shared leadership in sports teams. In her most recent research line, Katrien focuses on the design of an effective leadership development program, aiming to further optimize the leadership potential in the team. The resulting 5RS Shared Leadership Program is both evidence-based as well as theory-driven, with the Social Identity Approach to Leadership at its core.
To date, she has published in a wide variety of peer-reviewed journals and has presented her scientific findings at various national and international conferences. She has a broad international network, including amongst others a close collaboration with the Social Identity and Groups Network (SIGN) at the University of Queensland in Australia.
Next to research, Katrien is highly involved in teaching within the Bachelor-Master curriculum of Physical Education and Movement Sciences of the KU Leuven, with courses on, amongst others, training principles, training programs, and sport psychology.
Besides her research and teaching, she holds the translation of her research findings into practice close at heart. In this respect, she developed a website encompassing feedback reports for coaches, players, and sport psychologists. Furthermore, she also chairs the KU Leuven Centre for Shared Leadership. This centre provides high-quality counselling for both organizations and sports teams, with the aim of implementing a structure of shared leadership and further maximizing the organization’s leadership potential.
